Selma Cyclepaths
Flowers Plantation is proud to announce their sponsorship of the Selma Cyclepaths!!
The Selma Cyclepaths are an eclectic bicycling team whose main purpose is to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. First originated in 1990 with just a few riders, the Selma Cyclepaths made their debut appearance as an “official” bicycle team in the 1993 MS 150. They have been the top fund raiser for the NC Eastern Chapter of MS for the last two MS 150 mile rides in New Bern. The MS 150 Bike Tour is the largest organized cycling series in the country!
The Selma Cyclepaths are now comprised of approximately 100 members of all different professions. Members ride at various speeds, from the beginner to the very experienced. Their weekly training rides began April 7 at 9am at the Percy Flowers Store at the crossroads of Hwy 42 East and Buffalo Rd. in Flowers Plantation. The rides get increasingly longer as the weeks go by, starting at around 25 miles and working up to 65 miles by the end of August. All rides are fully supported by a “Supply and Gear” auto with water and snacks and there is a strict “NO DROP” policy.
Dave Holmes, the team’s captain, welcomes everyone to come and ride! He states, “The most important aspect of our team is that we are a friendly team and we enjoy the sights of our county. It’s fun, healthy and we ride for a great cause!” For more information about the Selma Cyclepaths, and to learn how to join their team, check out their website at www.selmacyclepaths.org.
