Publix sets opening date for first store in Johnston County
A new Publix grocery store slated for a burgeoning development east of Clayton is set to open this fall.

The Florida-based grocer has announced it will open the Publix at Marketplace at Flowers Crossroads at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18. 

The store, the first Publix in Johnston County, is situated on 6.7-acres at 24 Publix Drive along N.C. Route 42 at SW Flowers Parkway. 

The new center features the 48,000-square-foot Publix and 9,400 square feet of inline retail shops.

Charlotte-based real estate developer Morgan Companies closed on the land for the project last year. The company will own, develop and lease the center, while Flowers Plantation will retain and develop the site’s surrounding acreage.

The company paid $2.8 million for the property owned by Rebecca Flowers, developer of Flowers Plantation. 

The location is Publix's eighth store in the Triangle as it continues to build its presence in region.

Earlier this year, Publix opened a store in downtown Raleigh at Kane Realty's Smoky Hollow mixed-use destination. The store – one of just a couple of grocery stores in downtown Raleigh – is situated at 417 W. Peace St. in the newly completed Peace Apartments building, representing the first phase of the Kane's Smoky Hollow development.

Late last year, San Diego-based real estate company Newland Communities and its partner, North America Sekisui House, unveiled plans for a new Publix grocery store in the Wendell Falls development in eastern Wake County.

Sale of these homesites is expected to conclude in the fourth quarter 2020 / first quarter 2021, after which the community will be complete with a total of 123 homes.
Of course active adult living extends beyond one’s home and is also about community and lifestyle.  Forge Creek offers a small community lake with walking trails and a “quad-style” community park with WiFi-enabled Pavilion, Fire Pit, Dog Park, Bocce Ball Courts and Workout Equipment.  The  Forge Creek community is quite social and recently hosted a community-wide Labor Day event with a great pot luck meal and over 60 homeowners in attendance; past events have included concerts in the pavilion, Bocce Ball tournaments, ice cream socials, National Margarita Day party, ladies luncheons, and the guys are known to have a great poker game going. Recently homeowners started the “Yacht” club where they race radio-controlled boats around the small lake. We have several resident artists, musicians and community theater actors – a wonderful diversity of talents and interests within the community.  With so many folks having just started moved in this past year, everyone is looking to make new friends – it’s a great time to join the community.

GOLF CART REGISTRATION:
 All golf carts were to be registered by the end of September. Failure to register your golf cart will result in a citation and fine if you are seen driving your cart without the registration sticker. Registrations can be done at the Visitor Center at 500 Flowers Parkway in the Dr. Watson Inn.

NEIGHBORHOOD GATES:
Effective immediately, all gate issues/questions should be directed to your respective HOA Boards or the Management companies. This includes problems with gate codes and ordering new or replacement transponders.
